TRAFFIC
- Officers issued 13 traffic enforcement actions during the week.
PROPERTY CHECKS
- 92 business checks were made. 2 unsecured doors were found.
- 2 extra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners.
INCIDENTS OF INTEREST
- Welfare Check (Oyster Catcher Lane)
On December 17, 2024, officers were dispatched to a welfare check for a subject who was late to a meeting. The caller was not able to contact the subject and was concerned. Officers located the subject and determined they were fine and did not need further assistance.
- Suspicious Condition (Osprey Ridge Road)
On December 18, 2024, officers were dispatched to a prior suspicious condition. The caller reported a section of a yard gate missing from October, missing vent covers, and the continued tampering of the victim’s mailbox. Extra patrols were requested.
- Suspicious Condition (Duck Road)
On December 18, 2024, officers were dispatched to a suspicious condition. The caller reported that it appeared someone tried to access a breaker box associated with an electric vehicle charging station. There did not appear to be any damage, and it was not known if any electricity was used. Extra patrols were requested.
- Welfare Check (Speckle Trout)
On December 19, 2024, officers were dispatched to a welfare check. The caller requested that officers check on a family member that was not responding to any type of communication. There is an ongoing civil matter with the occupant of the home and other family members. Officers were unable to make contact with the subject and the officer did not have sufficient grounds to make entry into the home. Family members advised they would ask the family member who owns the home to make or authorize entry into the home.
- Vehicle Chase ( Duck Road)
On December 21, 2024, a North Carolina State Trooper pursued a black Dodge Charger through Duck after the vehicle was observed driving recklessly and at a speed over 100 MPH. The violator traveled south through Duck and then north through Duck after the vehicle was in Southern Shores for a few minutes. The vehicle was found abandoned at 121 Sound Sea Avenue. The occupants fled in unknown directions. The State Trooper on scene was able to identify the driver and will be seeking charges. The vehicle was impounded.
Town of Duck Officers provided limited support and stood-by to deploy tire deflation devices, but the opportunity did not present itself. The State Trooper was provided video evidence to support the criminal case against the suspect.
TRAFFIC CRASHES
- Duck Road / North of Duck Public Safety Building
On December 18, 2024, officers received a report of a vehicle striking a deer. The caller did not remain on scene and called in after returning home.
