TRAFFIC

  • Officers issued 10 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 

PROPERTY CHECKS

  • 132 business checks were made. 2 unsecured doors were found.
  • 8 extra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.      

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST

  • Animal Call (Plover Drive and Duck Road)

On January 7, 2025, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a deer that was hit by a vehicle and injured in the area.  The caller advised that the vehicle that hit the deer kept driving.  Officers located the deceased deer in the wood line.  The driver of the vehicle never contacted the police department to report the wreck. 

  • Warrant Service (Duck Road and Sandy Ridge Road)

On January 9, 2025, officers received an alert through the license plate reader that a vehicle coming into Duck had warrants associated with the driver.  A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, 28-year-old Jorge Matias of Chesapeake, Virginia, was the registered owner.  The warrants were confirmed by the US Marshals Service.  Matias was arrested and transported to the Dare County Detention Center in lieu of no bond.

  • Assist Agency (Speckle Trout Drive)

On January 10, 2025, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to assisting Dare County Sheriff’s Office serve an eviction on the occupant.  The occupant was evicted without incident.  The occupant was taken to a local hotel to stay the night and adult social services were contacted to assist the occupant with future living arrangements.

  • Suspicious Condition (Oyster Catcher Lane)

On January 11, 2025, officers were dispatched to contact a resident in reference to suspicious conditions happening in the neighborhood.  The resident advised that at night outdoor lights were turning on at unoccupied houses.  The resident was advised that several houses in Duck have motion lights or outdoor lights on a timer.  The resident was advised that extra patrols would be conducted.
