- Officers issued 18 traffic enforcement actions during the week.
PROPERTY CHECKS
- 130 business checks were made. 1 unsecured door was found.
- 3 extra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.
INCIDENTS OF INTEREST
- Mutual Aid Assistance (Honeysuckle Lane)
On May 11, 2025, officers provided mutual aid assistance to the Southern Shores Police Department in reference to a domestic dispute between family members.
- Suspicious Condition (Duck Road)
On May 11, 2025, at two different times during the day, a resident reported the sound of what they believed was a silenced firearm being fired. It was alleged that someone may have been shooting at deer. Upon investigation and after multiple patrols, officers were unable to find any signs of criminal activity. No signs of deer, deer carcasses, or shell casings could be found to validate the claim.
- Suspicious Condition (South Baum Trail)
On May 13, 2025, officers were dispatched to the above listed location after a house cleaner believed an unauthorized person was in the home and may have jumped off the deck. Officers searched the residence and the surrounding area but found no sign of an intruder or break-in.
- Suspicious Person (Pintail Drive)
On May 15, 2025, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to an elderly male walking into the caller’s garage. Officers located the male, who advised he was lost, and safely transported him back to the house he was staying in.
- Damage to Property (Duck Road)
On May 16, 2025, officers were dispatched to the police department in reference a subject claiming to have been involved in a hit and run. The caller rented a vehicle on May 11, 2025 and noticed a scratch on the bumper on May 16, 2025. The caller did not know when the damage was done or where. Officers documented the damage, but did not file a hit and run report due to a lack of evidence.
- Missing Person (Duck Road)
On May 16, 2025, officers were contacted by parents concerned that they hadn’t heard from their adult son since he went out with friends. Officers determined that the missing person was incarcerated at the Dare County Detention Center for a crime that occurred in Kill Devil Hills. The parents were notified of their son’s location.
- Civil Dispute (Duck Ridge Village Court)
On May 16, 2025, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a truck parked on the septic field. The vehicle was parked on private property, so officers were unable to intervene. Officers stood by to keep the peace.
