TRAFFIC

• Officers issued 25 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 

• Officers issued1 e-bike enforcement action during the week. 

• Officers issued 1 golf cart enforcement during the week.

PROPERTY CHECKS

• 140 business checks were made. No unsecured doors were found.

• No extra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.      

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST

• Dispute (Duck Road)

On May 31, 2026, officers responded to a dispute. While on patrol in the early morning hours, an officer noticed a female walking along Duck Road. The officer checked on her well-being and found that she and her boyfriend had had an argument while driving through Town. She had gotten out of their car to cool down. The boyfriend returned and the two continued on their journey.

• Larceny (Pintail Drive)

On May 31, 2026, officers responded to a reported larceny involving decorative seashells. The victim stated that several decorative shells had been taken from his property. The victim provided surveillance camera footage showing an unidentified female suspect removing the shells. On June 2, 2026, the same female suspect returned to the property and was captured on surveillance footage taking another shell.

After the second larceny, the victim took a screen shot of the female suspect from a surveillance camera and posted a picture of her on a poster at the end of his driveway. The public identification had an effect and the female returned the shells on June 3, 2026. The victim declined to press charges.

• Fraud (Duck Road)

On June 1, 2026, the detective took a report of a fraud involving the loss of approximately $5000 worth of jewelry. The initial report came from a victim living in Greensboro, North Carolina. It was reported that a credit card belonging to the victim was used to make a purchase at a Duck business. The detective followed up with the local business and found that the manager remembered the purchase and the use of the credit card. The manager reported that the suspect called the business and conveyed an elaborate story about a 50^th wedding anniversary and needing to purchase jewelry to be shipped overnight to an address in Michigan. Additional investigation revealed a sophisticated ring of fraud perpetrators. Investigative efforts are ongoing.

• Watercraft in Distress (Schooner Ridge Drive)

On June 2, 2026, officers received a report of a possible watercraft in distress. Once on scene, emergency personnel located a dinghy that washed ashore. Contact was made with US Coast Guard, and it was discovered that a sailboat traversing the coastal waters lost its dinghy in rough seas. No lives were in peril, and arrangements were made to remove the craft from the beach. 

• Larceny (Gifford Circle)

On June 2, 2026, officers received a report of a stolen package. A victim reported placing an order for a product on April 16, 2026. After not receiving the package after several business days, the victim checked the delivery status and found the package had been delivered on April 26, 2026. The victim checked with neighbors and no one mistakenly received the package. No suspect information was available and a claim was filed with the carrier.

• Fraud (Station Bay Drive)

On June 5, 2026, the detective took a report of a fraud involving the loss of approximately $455,000. Initial investigation revealed a complex fraud using the Coinbase and Robinhood investing applications to con the victim over a period of five months. Investigative efforts are ongoing.

• Assault (Duck Road)

On June 5, 2026, a motorcyclist was traveling north on Duck Road.  The operator indicated that a vehicle was tailgating him and he pulled off to the side of the road to allow the motorist to pass by. The vehicle operator pulled into a parking lot and the motorcyclist followed the vehicle.  An argument ensued and the motorcyclist was pushed and then punched in the head. The suspect then reportedly got some ice cream at a local business and left the scene. A warrant for arrest was issued for the suspect, 68-year-old David Bodge of Fairfax, Virginia, for misdemeanor assault.  

TRAFFIC CRASHES

• Duck Road

A vehicle slowed to make a turn, and the following vehicle was unable to stop before colliding with the first vehicle. No apparent injuries were reported.

• Duck Road and Amy Lane

A northbound vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head on with a southbound vehicle. One minor injury was reported.

• Duck Road and Duck Landing Lane

A northbound vehicle slowed for a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The following vehicle was unable to stop before colliding with the first vehicle.  No apparent injuries were reported.
