TRAFFIC
- Officers issued 25 traffic enforcement actions during the week.
PROPERTY CHECKS
- 136 business checks were made. 2 unsecured doors were found.
- 7 extra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.
INCIDENTS OF INTEREST
- Larceny (Duck Road)
On October 29, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to money being stolen. A customer left $580.00 on the counter. The next customer in line took the money and left in his work vehicle. Officers used the Department’s license plate reader system to locate the suspect vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated, and the money was retrieved and returned to the victim. The victim refused to press charges.
- Dispute (Duck Road)
On October 30, 2024, officers were dispatched to a dispute between coworkers. One worker claimed they were assaulted, and the other worker claimed the dispute was verbal in nature. The workers were advised of the warrant process because the misdemeanor incident occurred outside of the presence of the responding officers.
- Open Door (Duck Road)
On October 30, 2024, officers found the two public entrances to Red Sky Cafe unsecure. Officers attempted to make contact with the key holder but they were unsuccessful. The business appeared to be under renovation and the doors were not able to be secured. Officers kept a check on the business throughout the night.
- Animal Call (Duck Road and Sea Oats Drive)
On November 2, 2024, officers found a lost Beagle walking down the road. Officers called the phone number on the dog’s tag and were able to reunite the dog with its owner.
- Brush Fire (Duck Road)
On November 2, 2024, officers were dispatched to a brush fire in the woods to the north of Duck Deli. Officers used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. The fire department arrived and made sure the fire would not reignite.
- Trespassing (Christopher Drive)
On November 2, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a juvenile seen on surveillance video playing basketball on the homeowner’s property. Officers made contact with the juvenile and asked him to leave the property and not return.
- Animal Call (Charles Jenkins Lane and Duck Road)
On November 3, 2024, officers were dispatched to the above location in reference to an injured pelican. Dare County SPCA was contacted to assist.
TRAFFIC CRASHES
- Duck Road / South Snow Geese Drive
On October 28, 2024, a vehicle was traveling on Duck Road when it struck a deer. There was a substantial amount of damage to the vehicle.
