Rhythms of Ghana: Saakumu Dance Troupe

In collaboration with the Don & Catherine Bryan Cultural Series we are please to welcome the Saakumu Dance Troupe to the Town of Duck Amphitheater.

The Saakumu Dance Troupe project brings traditional and contemporary Ghanaian music and dance to the Outer Banks through school workshops, community engagement, and a public performance, fostering cultural understanding and enriching arts education.

Saakumu is recognized as one of the leading cultural performing troupes in Ghana and is hired to perform at weddings, funerals and corporate functions throughout the country and has entertained many government officials and foreign dignitaries, including the former president, H.E. John Mahama. The Troupe also has also won many regional and national cultural competitions. Members of Saakumu also instruct local children and foreign students in traditional music and dance.

The performance will take place in the Duck Amphitheater (1200 Duck Rd) on Thursday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public.
