Paul Tury is an artist living and working in Kitty Hawk, NC. He holds a BFA in painting and printmaking from James Madison University and is an award-winning graphic designer and illustrator. Currently, he is the creative designer for a national non-profit.
Paul’s artistic passion is making handmade paper in his home studio from commercially available and natural sources. The papers he uses are made from cotton, abaca, hemp, recycled paper, recycled clothing and natural items such as flowers, seaweed, herbs, and other plants. He will frequently dye the paper pulp in a variety of bright colors which complement and contrast with the natural colors of his raw materials. This process creates a wide spectrum of colors, shades, and textures. He then uses this paper to build 3-D art works small and large and is always pushing the boundaries of what paper can do.
