Annual Beach Surveys Expected This Week

Coastal Protection Engineering (CPE) field crews will be onsite next week to conduct the annual beach surveys for the Town of Duck, along with the neighboring towns of Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, and Kill Devil Hills.

Survey work is set to begin in Currituck County on Monday, with crews expected to reach Duck by Wednesday, June 4 or Thursday, June 5, continuing south through the other municipalities.

During this time, beachgoers may notice survey trucks operating along the shoreline—one marked with the CPE logo and another with the McKim & Creed logo. In addition to land crews, a survey vessel will be working just offshore, running shore-perpendicular lines and coming very close to the beach.

These surveys play a vital role in monitoring coastal conditions and guiding beach management efforts. Please give survey crews and equipment ample space as they conduct this important work. Thank you for your cooperation.
