Planning Board Meeting Recap | Nov. 13

At its meeting on November 13, 2024, the Town of Duck Planning Board conducted the following business:

  • The Board members reviewed a text amendment to allow Amusement Arcades in the Village Commercial (V-C) district.   After receiving comments from the applicant and members of the public, the Board members voted (3-2) to recommend denial of the proposal.  The majority of Board members who voted to deny the application stated an opinion that indoor entertainment facilities are inconsistent with the Town’s adopted Comprehensive & Land Use Plan and incompatible with the current uses and character of Duck Village.  The members supporting the proposal shared an opposing point of view that amusement arcades are compatible with other uses in Duck Village and would provide a greater diversity of family entertainment currently lacking in Duck.  The Town Council will consider setting a public hearing on the proposed text amendment at its December 4th meeting.
  • The Board members voted unanimously to recommend approval of a text amendment proposal to correct a couple of references in Town standards for outdoor lighting and procedures for special use permits.  This proposal will also be considered at the December 4th Town Council meeting.
  • Community Development staff updated the Board about surveying/design of Teresa Court stormwater management improvements and replacement of a retaining wall north of Tuckahoe Drive.
