Town Council Meeting Recap | April 2, 2025

Below is a recap from the April Town Council Meeting:

  • Council passed Resolution 25-03, honoring Wilbur Wright on his birthdate and the vital cultural and economic contributions of the Wright Brothers in the “First in Flight” legacy of Dare County and North Carolina
  • Council passed Resolution 25-04, declaring the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month
  • Council passed Resolution 25-05, declaring the month of April as Fair Housing Month
  • Council passed Resolution 25-07, encouraging the NC Legislature to expand authority to construct housing for local government employees
  • Council approved an amendment to the Town’s adopted Position Classification Table to add two position classifications without adding additional personnel
  • Council approved a contract with Thompson, Price,  Scott, Adams & Co., P.A. for audit services for Fiscal Years 2025, 2026 and 2027
  • Council approved a fifth amendment to the contract between the Town and Sandski, LLC for lifeguard services
  • Interim Fire Chief Matthew Dudek was sworn in as Duck Fire Department’s Fire Chief
  • Interim Deputy Fire Chief Jeffrey Del Monte was sworn in as Duck Fire Department’s Deputy Fire Chief
  • Council held a legislative public hearing on Ordinance 24-06 for an ordinance amending four sections of the Town Code to allow amusement arcades as a specially permitted use in the Village Commercial Zoning District. Council denied the amendment with a 4-1 vote.
  • Council appointed Marc Murray and James Cofield to the Planning Board for a term to expire May 1, 2028
  • Council authorized a public hearing for May 7, 2025 for Ordinance 25-01, which updates penalties for violating the tree preservation standards in Subsection 156.137(J) of the Town Code
  • Council adopted Ordinance 25-02, an ordinance amending Chapter 96, Sections 96.02, 96.04, 96.06, and 96.99 of the Town Code related to the definitions, fires, alarm systems, alarm system permitting, and alarm system fees.
  • Council adopted Resolution 25-06 and approved the associated agreement with the Carolina Dunes Association formalizing conditions regarding the use of the Town’s property at 145 Buffell Head Road
  • Council opted to table a contract for dune and beach planting until their mid-month meeting
  • The next meeting will be the Mid-Month Meeting on Wednesday, April 16 at 1:00pm
