The Town of Duck is proud to announce that the Main Stage on the Town Green has been dedicated as the Don Kingston Pavilion, honoring former Mayor Don Kingston for his many years of service and leadership. The dedication was unveiled following the December 3, 2025 Town Council meeting, commemorating Kingston in a space that reflects his enduring contributions and deep connection to the community.
Kingston purchased a home in Town in 1997 and became a full-time resident in 2007. He began his career in public service in 2009 on the Town of Duck Planning Board and was elected to the Town Council later that year, serving two years as mayor pro tempore. In 2011, he was re-elected and served 14 years as mayor, guiding the Town with steady leadership and a strong commitment to the community.
Kingston’s work extended beyond the Town of Duck, serving on the Dare County Advisory Group, the Dare County Shoreline Commission, and the Government Access Channel Committee. He held several leadership roles with the North Carolina League of Municipalities, including positions on the Mayors Association, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, Executive Committee, and Local Leadership Foundation Board.
During his tenure, Kingston helped guide the Town of Duck’s development, both a close-knit coastal community and a popular destination for visitors. He supported projects such as boardwalk extensions, sidewalk improvements, and beach nourishment, all efforts that have strengthened the quality of life for residents and enhanced what people have come to love about the “Duck experience.”
Kingston was also a familiar face at the Town’s free, family-friendly events, many of which happen on the Town Green. Movies, concerts, ceremonies, and other gatherings have filled the Main Stage over the years, and it was not uncommon to find Kingston at a Thursday night summer concert, enjoying the evening alongside neighbors and friends.
“It is only fitting that we dedicate the Main Stage as the Don Kingston Pavilion,” said Town Manager Drew Havens. “Don has given his heart to this Town for so many years, and it is only right that his legacy remains at the center of our community. We are grateful for his dedication and proud to celebrate him in this way.”
The Town of Duck invites residents and visitors to enjoy the Don Kingston Pavilion for years to come, continuing the traditions and community gatherings that Mayor Kingston supported throughout his service.
