The Duck Police Department has assumed control of traffic operations at the Duck/Southern Shores border (Sea Oats Trail/13th Avenue) after a privately hired traffic control company, contracted in connection with utility work being performed in the area, created a public safety concern.
Duck officers consulted with the Southern Shores Police Department to address the situation and implement a safer, more effective traffic management plan. Officers from the Duck Police Department remain on scene, actively directing traffic to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as this matter is resolved. Please exercise caution when traveling through the area and follow the directions of officers on site.
