Volunteers Needed for Trail and Wetland Protection Project

The Town of Duck invites community members to volunteer for an upcoming environmental stewardship project, “Clearing the Way: Protecting Trails and Wetlands.” This effort supports the ongoing care and preservation of the Town’s trails, boardwalk, and marshlands.

Invasive plants, including Phragmites, are beginning to encroach on the Soundside Boardwalk and Town Park. This growth can limit access, reduce visibility, and create potential safety concerns. Community volunteers play an important role in helping maintain safe, accessible, and environmentally healthy public spaces.

Volunteer participation includes the following:

Required Online Training
Pesticide Safety Training for Noncertified Applicators
Date: Thursday, April 23
Time: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Location: Online (participants may join from home or work)
A licensed professional will lead the session and be available to answer questions. Registrations must be submitted by 12 p.m. on Thursday, April 23.

Field Work with Licensed Professional
Hands-on treatment and removal of invasive plants
Dates: Monday, April 27 or Tuesday, April 28 (weather dependent)
Time: 8:30 a.m. (approximately 2 hours)
Location: Town Park, Soundside Boardwalk, and Duck Trail areas

This opportunity allows volunteers to support the safety and accessibility of public pathways, learn practical skills in invasive species management, and contribute directly to the health of Duck’s natural resources.
