TRAFFIC

  • Officers issued 32 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 

PROPERTY CHECKS

  • 174 business checks were made. No unsecured doors were found.
  • 4 extra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.      

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST

  • Larceny (Duck Road)

On April 13, 2025, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a juvenile that had stolen items from a business. The business owner provided security footage of the juvenile male stealing earrings. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

  • Suspicious Condition (Old Squaw Drive and Buffell Head Road)

On April 14, 2025, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to an autistic juvenile wandering in the area. The caller advised that the juvenile was walking from house to house and was seen entering a home and leaving the front door standing open upon exit. Officers located the juvenile and safely reunited him with his parents.

  • Suspicious Condition (Osprey Ridge Road)

On April 14, 2025, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a homeowner finding what they believed was a homeless persons camp site in the wooded area of the backyard. Officers arrived and navigated thick brush to find what looked like a table on its side. It was determined that the area was not camp site, but likely a pile of discarded items or an area children once played in. 

  • Suspicious Vehicle (Duck Road)

On April 18, 2025, officers observed a vehicle standing in the gravel lot for a prolonged period of time. Officers made contact with the driver who had fallen asleep watching the sunset. The driver was okay and left the area.

  • Assist Motorist (Duck Road)

On April 18, 2025, officers observed a low-speed vehicle (LSV) that had run out of battery power. Officers pushed the LSV from Plover Drive to Osprey Ridge Road.

  • Larceny (Duck Road)

On April 19, 2025, officers noticed a male known to them through prior encounters involving larceny, walking from Duck into Southern Shores. Officers stopped by Han-Dee Hugo to see if the male had been in the business.  The manager advised that the male had been and was acting strangely at the time. Surveillance camera footage showed the suspect concealing several items in his pants before getting nervous and removing the items from his pants and placing them on a shelf. The male did leave the store with a stolen beverage. With the assistance of Southern Shores Police Officers, the suspect was located, charged with larceny, and trespassed from the business.

  • Suspicious Vehicle (Bunting Lane)

On April 19, 2025, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to a vehicle improperly parked on the property. Officers arrived and found that an individual visiting a neighbor had parked at the home. The vehicle was moved at the officer’s request.

TRAFFIC CRASHES

  • Traffic Crash (Duck Road)

On April 17, 2025, a vehicle backed into a parked vehicle while attempting to leave the business.  Substantial damage occurred.
