INCIDENTS OF INTEREST
- Dispute (Duck Road)
On December 21, 2025, officers responded to a dispute between a mother and her son over the son’s alleged drug use. The responding officers de-escalated the situation and advised the mother of her legal options.
- Credit Card Fraud (Duck Road)
On December 23, 2025, officers investigated a possible fraud after a guest of the Sanderling Inn reported two fraudulent credit card charges. The victim advised that after eating at the resort restaurant and returning to his room, he received a phone call from a person claiming to be a resort employee. The person asked for an updated credit card number for room service purposes. The victim believed the call was legitimate and provided the caller with the credit card information requested. The victim contacted hotel staff later in the day regarding room service and was told the resort did not offer that service. The victim checked his credit card account and found two fraudulent charges. The victim immediately cancelled his credit card. The victim was concerned that a resort staff member may have been responsible for the fraudulent charges and was not comfortable remaining at the resort. The resort reimbursed the victim for his stay. Further investigation cleared the resort and its employees of any involvement in the fraud. The fraud remains under investigation, but initial information points to a large scale fraud being perpetrated at resorts.
- Breaking and Entering of a Vehicle (Duck Road)
On December 25, 2025, officers responded after two individuals were seen entering a parked vehicle in the area. The suspects fled on bicycles after being confronted by the owner of the vehicle. The responding officers located the suspects and determined they were visiting juveniles. One of the juveniles admitted to unlawfully entering the vehicle. Nothing was taken from the victim’s vehicle. The suspects were turned over to a parent. Officers are pursuing juvenile charges.
- Arrest (Duck Road near Four Seasons Lane)
On December 27, 2025, an officer conducted a traffic stop after observing the driver speeding and swerving. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. While the officer was explaining North Carolina’s laws on marijuana, the driver became irate, behaved aggressively toward the officer, and refused to comply with the officer’s commands. The driver was placed under arrest for resisting a public officer. The Dare County Department of Social Services was contacted because there were two young children in the car during this incident. The driver, 31-year-old Yjuan Young of Portsmouth, Virginia, was transported to the Dare County Detention Center and held under a $2,000 secured bond.
