TRAFFIC

  • Officers issued 6 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 

PROPERTY CHECKS

  • 105 business checks were made.No unsecured doors were found.
  • 9 extra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.      

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST

  • Talk with Officer (Acorn Oak Avenue)

On January 22, 2025, officers spoke with a caller about issues that occurred with a past relationship. Advice about documentation was given and the caller was asked to contact officers if the situation progressed.

  • Suspicious Condition (Cook Drive)

On January 22, 2025, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to cleaners finding notes posted on the windows of the rental home advising that a crime had occurred. Officers arrived and found the home vacant, but they did find a firearm sitting on a bed. No evidence of a crime was found. Officers secured the firearm and used the Department’s ALPR system to determine the renter’s vehicle was in Virginia Beach, VA. Officers contacted Virginia authorities and requested they locate the vehicle and perform a welfare check. An hour later, the Department’s ALPR system alerted Duck officers that the renter’s vehicle re-entered Duck. Officers made contact with the renter and determined that no crime had occurred. The renter was dealing with severe paranoia and the effects of illegal drug use. Officers offered the renter help, but all offers were refused. The renter returned to Virginia. Officers retained the firearm for safekeeping. 

  • Attempt to Locate (Speckle Trout Drive)

On January 25, 2025, officers were contacted by family members of an individual they evicted from their house the previous month.  The family members were concerned because they hadn’t heard from the relative in a week. The family was advised the individual had been referred to Dare County Social Services for assistance.       

  • Suspicious Noise (Duck Road)

On January 25, 2025, officers were dispatched to the above listed location in reference to an extremely loud noise coming from a business.  Officers arrived and found the burglar alarm going off and the front door unsecure. Officers made entry into the business and determined everything was secure. The door was locked upon exit and the alarm reset.

  • Suspicious Vehicle (Duck Road)

On January 25, 2025, officers observed a vehicle at the Town Park after dark. Officers walked the area and found a family on the boardwalk enjoying the evening.
