TRAFFIC

• Officers issued 14 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 

• Officers issued3 e-bike enforcement actions during the week. 

• Officers issued 1 golf cart enforcement action during the week.

PROPERTY CHECKS

• 157 business checks were made. No unsecured doors were found.

• Noextra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.      

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST    

• Suspicious Condition ( Ocean Way)

On June 8, 2026, officers responded to a report of a male running an electric line from one house to another. Investigation revealed that Dominion Power was on site and nothing nefarious was occurring.

• Arrest (Duck Road and Four Seasons Lane)

On June 9, 2026, an officer conducted a traffic stop for a speed violation.   During the course of the stop, the officer found the driver to be impaired.  The driver, a juvenile from Washington, DC, was arrested and arraigned at the Dare County Magistrate’s office.

• Injury to Property (Buffell Head Road)

On June 11, 2026, a homeowner reported damage to a door lock. The owner described the damage as scratches to an external electronic keypad. There was no other damage noted at the residence.

• Hit and Run (Duck Road)

On June 11, 2026, officers received a report of a hit and run. While speaking with the caller and surrounding law enforcement agencies, it was discovered that the same caller reported the incident in Currituck County and Kill Devil Hills. The caller’s recollection of events differed greatly between the three agencies. With no credible evidence of a crime occurring in Duck, no formal report was filed. 

• Trespassing (Sandy Ridge Road)

On June 11, 2026, officers received a report of an unknown male using the beach access.  The caller believed the subject to be trespassing on the access.  Officers were handling a high priority call at the time, so their response was delayed. Officers were unable to locate the suspect when they arrived.

• Dispute (Trinitie Drive)

On June 11, 2026, officers received a report of a dispute in progress between a male and female. Officers arrived and spoke with the parties involved. The two denied any physical altercation and no visual evidence suggested otherwise. The parties separated to cool down for the afternoon.

• Arrest (Duck Road and Four Seasons Lane)

On June 13, 2026, an officer initiated a traffic stop at Duck Road and Four Seasons Lane for failure to maintain lane control. During the stop, the driver made furtive movements toward the center console and refused repeated lawful commands to lower the window and exit the vehicle. 39-year-old, Gustavo Espinoza of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, was arrested for resisting, delaying, and obstructing a public officer. Espinoza was held at the Dare County Detention Center under a $2,500 secured bond.

TRAFFIC CRASHES

• Duck Road and Schooner Ridge Drive

On June 8, 2026, a vehicle was traveling south on Duck Road and struck a deer. No human injuries were reported.

• Duck Road

On June 10, 2026, a southbound Ford Mustang stopped for pedestrians in the crosswalk.  A following Hyundai passenger car slowed for the Mustang. A pickup truck failed to stop and struck the Hyundai and pushed it into the Mustang. No pedestrians were harmed, but occupants of the Hyundai were medically evaluated and released. The pickup driver was cited and released.

• Duck Road and Widgeon Drive

On June 13, 2026, a northbound vehicle was making a right turn on Widgeon Drive and failed to yield to a southbound bicyclist that was using the multi-use path and in the crosswalk. The vehicle’s driver was cited with failure to yield (causing serious injury) and released.
