TRAFFIC

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST 

  • Drug Violation (Duck Road / Nash Road)

On March 30, 2026, an officer made a traffic stop after observing the driver make an unsafe movement. Upon making contact with the driver, the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A small amount of marijuana was located and seized for destruction. No criminal charges were filed. 

  • Missing Person (Ocean Way)

On April 1, 2026, officers responded after being notified that a 9-year-old child was missing after returning to the family residence to retrieve an item to bring back to the beach. Officers located the child, who had become lost on her way.  

  • Civil Dispute (Acorn Oak Avenue) 

On April 1, 2026, an officer responded after the homeowner advised that guests who had stayed in her Airbnb left all of their belongings behind. The responding officer contacted the guests and arranged a time for them to retrieve their belongings. 

  • Arrest (Duck Road)

On April 2, 2026, a Duck officer and two Southern Shores police officers responded to Birthday Suits for a burglar alarm. The Duck officer arrived first and observed a broken window at the front of the business. Just as the backup officers arrived, a suspect emerged out of the broken window and attempted to evade the officers while fleeing the scene. The Duck officer was able to catch the suspect, and after a brief struggle, got him handcuffed. Multiple stolen pieces of property were recovered from the suspect’s pockets. The suspect, 26-year-old Kevin Eduardo Gonzales-Gonzalez of Charlottle, North Carolina was arrested and charged with Felony Breaking and Entering, Felony Larceny following Breaking and Entering, and Resisting, Delaying, and Obstructing a Police Officer. The suspect was held at the Dare County Detention Center in lieu of a $20,000 secured bond. 

  • Arrest (Duck Road / Baum Trail)

On April 4, 2026, an officer conducted a traffic stop after the officer observed the driver make an unsafe movement. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana. The front seat passenger admitted to having marijuana on his person,  which the officer seized for destruction. When the officer ran the suspect’s name through NCIC, he learned the suspect had an active Order for Arrest for failing to appear for court. The suspect, 32-year-old Tyre Deshon Salisbury of Greenville, North Carolina, was arrested and transported to the Dare County Detention Center, where he was held in lieu of a $1,500 secured bond. 

TRAFFIC CRASHES

  • 114 Christopher Drive 

On March 31, 2026, a passenger vehicle backing out of the driveway collided with another vehicle that was traveling down the road. The parties involved chose to exchange information rather than file a police report. 

  • 1216 Duck Road 

On April 1, 2026, a vehicle backing out of its parking space backed into another vehicle.
