TRAFFIC

  • Officers issued 14 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 

PROPERTY CHECKS

  • 114 business checks were made. No unsecured doors were found.
  • 1 extra patrol was requested by an out-of-town property owner this week.     
  • 159 off season property checks were completed.

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST

  • Brush Fire (Duck Road)

On March 9, 2025, officers and the fire department were dispatched to a brush fire. The fire was quickly contained and no structural damage was reported.

  • Harassing Text Messages (Seabreeze Drive)

On March 10, 2025, officers took a report of suspicious text messages received from an acquaintance of the caller. Investigation found that no crime occurred and recommendations were given on how to safeguard themselves in the future.

  • Damage to Property / Larceny (Cook Drive)

On March 10, 2025, officers received a report of a missing mailbox.  Upon investigation, it was found that the mailbox was likely mistakenly taken by a demolition team who cleared a lot across the street from the mailbox owner. The owner is going to contact with the demolition company to rectify the situation.

  • Welfare Check (Cook Drive)

On March 10, 2025, officers were dispatched to a welfare check. A family member reported not being able to make contact with his father for several hours after the father’s scheduled arrival time.  Officers made contact with the subject and found everything was all right.

  • Dispute (Schooner Ridge Drive)

On March 13, 2025, officers were dispatched to a dispute involving the repossession of a vehicle. A tow truck driver loaded a vehicle and was blocked from leaving by the vehicle’s owner. A Dare County Magistrate was contacted and it was found that the tow truck driver was authorized to complete the repossession. No further police involvement was needed.

  • Suspicious Condition (Duck Road)

On March 13, 2025, officers responded to a business in reference to an unusual phone call. The business reported that a call came in from a female who stated she needed help and it seemed like she was in danger.  The complainant described the caller as sounding robotic and stated the business number was the only number she could call.  Officers traced the call back to Arizona and attempts to make contact were unsuccessful.

  • Animal Call (Schooner Ridge Drive Beach Access)

On March 15, 2025, officers responded to a report of several deceased birds on the beach.  Officers verified the report and made contact with Dare County Animal Control.  Animal Control requested a report be made to North Carolina Wildlife to which officers complied. Nothing further was requested from Duck officers.
