TRAFFIC
- Officers issued 53 traffic enforcement actions during the week.
PROPERTY CHECKS
- 142 business checks were made. No unsecured doors were found.
- 12 extra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.
INCIDENTS OF INTEREST
- Town Code Violation (Duck Road)
On November 24, 2025, officers were alerted to a golf cart being driven on the multi-use path. Officers located a golf cart matching the description parked and unoccupied. Officers waited for the occupants to return. The driver admitted to driving on the multi-use path. The driver was provided with a handout explaining golf cart and LSV regulations in the Town of Duck.
- Mutual Aid (Currituck County)
On November 25, 2025, an officer traveling to work observed a vehicle failing to stay in its lane of travel and swerving erratically. The officer contacted a nearby State Trooper who was able to stop the vehicle to investigate. The driver was arrested and charged with driving while impaired.
- Assist Person (East Tuckahoe Drive)
On November 25, 2025, an officer and fire department personnel assisted a homeowner break a lock on their shed after the officer arrived and verified ownership of the property
- Suspicious Condition (Duck Road)
On November 25, 2025, officers observed a white box truck with multiple doors open parked outside of a business late at night. Officers investigated and found the door to the business unlocked. Further investigation revealed a plumber was in the business making a repair.
- Arrest (Duck Road)
On November 28, 2025, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for exceeding the posted speed limit. The driver of the vehicle, Lawrence David Derby of Corolla, had two outstanding felony warrants for identity theft and obtaining property by false pretense. Mr. Derby was arrested and transported to the Dare County Detention Center. Mr. Derby was held in lieu of a $4,000 secured bond.
- Suspicious Condition (Duck Road)
On November 29, 2025, officers were advised that someone claiming to work for the Dare County Sheriff’s Office called and asked how much money was in the store. Officers advised the inquiry was part of a known scam. Officers conducted extra patrols of the business overnight.
TRAFFIC CRASHES
- Duck Road
On November 25, 2025, a vehicle travelling northbound in the area of the Cotton Gin struck a deer that ran into the roadway. The vehicle sustained minor damage.
