TRAFFIC

  • Officers issued 33 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 

PROPERTY CHECKS

  • 146 business checks were made. 1 unsecured door was found.
  • 8 extra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.      

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST

  • Suspicious Condition (Address withheld for privacy)

On September 28, 2025, officers responded after the reporting person, who was distraught, reported being the victim of a scam. Upon arrival, officers felt there was something else going on, so they contacted family members of the reporting person. Family members believed the reporting person was experiencing a mental breakdown and had fabricated her story about being scammed. Appropriate assistance was offered.

  • Concealed Weapon Violation (Duck Road)

On September 30, 2025, an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was conducted and upon contacting the driver of the vehicle, the officer asked for the driver’s license and registration. Before retrieving the registration, the driver admitted to the officer that he had a handgun concealed in the glove box. The driver was cited for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and speeding.

  • Attempted Fraud (Lala Court)

On October 1, 2025, officers responded after the reporting party received a suspicious phone call from someone claiming to work for the Office of the Inspector General. The caller advised outstanding debts needed to be paid or an arrest warrant would be issued. The reporting party realized this was a scam call and contacted law enforcement. No money was sent to the scammer.

  • Drug Violation (Duck Road)

On October 1, 2025, an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, which led to a traffic stop. As the officer approached the vehicle, a strong odor of marijuana was detected. The driver was detained and a small amount of marijuana was located following a search of the vehicle. The marijuana was disposed of, and the driver was cited for speeding.  

  • Arrest (Duck Road)

On October 1, 2025, an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer followed the vehicle, which continued to travel at a high rate of speed and crossed the center line multiple times. A traffic stop was conducted. The officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath, bloodshot/glassy eyes, and slurred speech. The driver failed field sobriety testing before being placed under arrest. The driver submitted to a breath test which found the driver had a blood alcohol content of 0.15. Leo Deraps, 35 years of age, of Richmond, Virginia, was taken before a Magistrate and charged with driving while impaired, speeding, and not possessing a driver’s license. The suspect was held under a $4,000 secured bond.

TRAFFIC CRASHES

  • Parking Lot on Duck Road

On October 3, 2025, officers responded to a vehicle crash where the driver of a pick-up truck, who was pulling out of a parking spot, turned too tightly resulting in a collision with the parked vehicle.
