The Town of Duck Police Department is seeking an uncertified cadet to attend Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) at College of the Albemarle’s Currituck County Campus. The cadet will receive a starting annual salary of $51,164 and will be eligible for all benefits on the first day of training. The cadet will receive a 5% salary increase upon successful completion of BLET. In addition, the cadet will receive a daily stipend for travel and meal expenses while in training.

Our team works 12-hour shifts (14 days per month) on a rotation that ensures you have a three-day weekend every other week!  We offer state of the art equipment, high quality training, and an assigned take home vehicle (after completion of BLET) to officers residing within 60 road miles of the Town.

The starting salary is based on education, experience, certifications, and training. Officers with significant prior experience (typically 5+ years) may qualify for a hiring range of $60,000 – $70,000. The Town of Duck is seeking an experienced building inspector who holds North Carolina standard certifications in the building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical trades. The hiring range for this position is $74,585-$104,858, depending on education, experience, certifications, and training. An employee in this class is responsible for performing inspections, providing citizen information, and overseeing record-keeping necessary to administer the state building codes.  Work in inspections includes development and site plan review; issuance of permits; the inspection of building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical installations for code compliance, and preparing records of inspections activities. The employee works daily with contractors, architects, engineers, and homeowners in complying with federal, state and local ordinances and codes. Tact, courtesy, and firmness must be exercised in dealing with professionals and the general public. Work subjects the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions; extremes in temperature; hazards associated with construction work; and may require one to work in close quarters, crawl spaces, and similar enclosed spaces. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated based on periodic conferences, review of inspection and enforcement reports, and through contractor and public reactions.
