The Duck Police Department is proud to announce its participation in the Nationwide Project Lifesaver Program.
This program is designed to provide rapid response and assistance for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease, autism, Down Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury, or other conditions that may cause them to wander away from caregivers.
- Enrolled individuals wear a bracelet containing a battery-operated transmitter.
- If the individual wanders off, caregivers immediately notify the Duck Police Department by calling 911.
- Officers equipped with specialized equipment can track the transmitter's signal and locate the individual.
- Medical Condition: Have a medically diagnosed mental disorder or injury.
- Reside in or be visiting Duck, NC.
- History of Wandering: Have wandered away from a caregiver in the past.
- Caregiver Responsibilities: Have a caregiver who can perform daily checks and logs of the equipment, including testing bracelet transmitter battery daily. Caregivers must notify the Duck Police Department promptly if there are any problems with the equipment.
- Wearing the Bracelet: Will wear the bracelet at all times.
- Free of Charge: The program is offered at no cost to participants.
- Rapid Response: Trained officers can quickly locate individuals using the tracking technology.
- Peace of Mind: Provides caregivers with reassurance and support.
