TRAFFIC

  • Officers issued 24 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 
  • Officers issued 1 e-bike enforcement action during the week. 
  • Officers issued 1 golf cart enforcement during the week.

PROPERTY CHECKS

  • 135 business checks were made. No unsecured doors were found.
  • No extra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.      

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST

  • Larceny (Duck Road)

On May 24, 2026, officers responded to a prior larceny.  A shop owner reported a dress stolen within the last hour.  A description of the suspect was provided, but officers were unable to locate or identify the suspect.

  • Suspicious Condition (Ocean Bay Boulevard)

On May 24, 2026, officers responded to a suspicious condition. A concerned party reported a female yelling at a homeowner about property rights. Officers resolved the issue.   

  • Larceny (Duck Road)

On May 25, 2026, officers responded to a prior larceny.  A business reported a male stealing a pair of flip flops 20 minutes prior to calling. A vague description of the suspect was provided. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.  

  • Suspicious Condition (Ruddy Duck Lane)

On May 26, 2026, officers took a report of possible fraud.  An investigation revealed that a utility company mistakenly turned off services at the residence.  A person with a similar name had services turned off and the utility company advised it was a clerical error. 

  • Suspicious Condition (Dune Road)

On May 27, 2026, officers responded to a report of a stolen golf cart.  An investigation revealed the golf cart was picked up by a maintenance company and no larceny occurred.

  • Fraud (Duck Road)

On May 28, 2026, officers responded to a report of fraud.  The restaurant manager saw the press release from Nags Head Police Department concerning the arrest of several subjects using fraudulently obtained credit cards to purchase take-out orders.  The restaurant reported a similar MO was perpetrated on May 24, 2026.  The Duck Police Investigator is coordinating with other agencies to draft charges on the fraud group.

  • Indecent Exposure (Duck Road)

On May 29, 2026, officers responded to an indecent exposure. Initial reports indicated that a male was pleasuring himself on the property and ran away when confronted by staff. On May 30, 2026, officers were again contacted about the male and staff provided the location of the male.  An interview revealed that the minor male was urinating near a dumpster and the staff member misconstrued the interaction as sexual in nature.  

  • Arrest (Duck Road)

On May 29, 2026, an officer observed a vehicle failing to maintain its lane on Duck Road.  A traffic stop subsequently found the driver to be impaired. The female driver, 45-year-old, Tabitha Fern of Norfolk, Virginia, was arrested for driving while impaired.  Fern was held at the Dare County Detention Center in lieu of a $3000 bond.
