Council Meeting Recap | June 4

Below is a summary of the June 4, 2025 Council Meeting:

  • Council approved two contracts with Coastal Protection Engineering for 2025 annual beach monitoring services and for pre-permitting coordination and native beach sediment analysis
  • Council approved deeming all police TASER 7 energy weapons, holsters, cartridges, and related accessories as surplus property to be donated to the Tyrell County Sheriff’s office
  • Council approved deeming other certain police property as surplus to be disposed of by online auction
  • Council approved an amended and restated contract between the Town and the Duck Volunteer Fire Department
  • Police Officer Richard Deaner was recognized for obtaining his Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate
  • Master Police Officer Nathan Mauffray was awarded the Town’s SOAR award
  • Council held a legislative public hearing on Ordinance 25-03 for an ordinance adding Subsection 156.053(C) to the Town Code allowing additions to match the height of the existing roofline for legally, nonconforming residences up to a maximum of one additional foot
  • Council adopted the proposed Fiscal Year 2025-2026 budget and the 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Plan
  • Council reappointed all seven Board of Adjustment members (Olin Finch, Carol Powell, Miriam Rollin, David Flowers and Tim McKeithan as Members and Warren Stembridge and Tom Burton as Alternates) for a three-year term to expire on July 1, 2028
  • Council discussed an easement agreement between the Town and Brightspeed of Eastern North Carolina, LLC and voted to approve the agreement on the condition that Brightspeed remove all surface markers on Town of Duck property
