The Duck Police Department is investigating a head-on collision that occurred Wednesday morning when a vehicle traveling northbound on Duck Road crossed into the southbound lane just south of the Four Seasons subdivision.
At approximately 9:57 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026, the Duck Police Department, Duck Fire Department and Dare County EMS responded to a report of a head-on collision on Duck Road. A preliminary investigation indicates that Matthew Ryan Meade of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina was traveling northbound when his vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a minivan driven by William Benjamin Clinton of Barnesville, North Carolina.
Occupants of both vehicles were evaluated at the scene for injuries. One occupant of the southbound vehicle was transported by Dare County EMS to The Outer Banks Hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.
Duck Road remained closed until approximately 11:45 a.m. as first responders cleared the scene and removed the vehicles involved in the collision.
Meade was charged with failing to maintain lane control. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Duck Police Department.
