TRAFFIC

  • Officers issued 21 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 

PROPERTY CHECKS

  • 175 business checks were made. No unsecured doors were found.
  • No extra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.      

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST

  • Suspicious Condition (Sound Sea Drive)

On April 20, 2026, a caller advised officers they believed a child had been neglected after viewing a TikTok video showing the child was left in their car seat for an extended period of time. Officers spoke with those involved and reviewed the video before determining the complaint was unfounded. The video had been edited to change the perceived timeline.

  • 911 Abandoned Call (Duck Road)

On April 21, 2026, officers were dispatched to a 911 abandoned call. Officers determined there was a fault on the phone line.

  • Improperly Parked Vehicle (Duck Road)

On April 22, 2026, officers were notified by a Town employee that a landscape contractor was parked illegally on the sidewalk. Officers located the driver and handled the complaint.

  • Suspicious Person (Duck Road)

On April 23, 2026, officers received report of a male, who was believed to be homeless, behind the business. The male was located in the area and interviewed by officers. The male was enroute to Florida and continued on his journey.

  • Animal Call (Ocean Crest Way)

On April 23, 2026, officers were advised of a roaming dog in the area. Officers were unable to locate the dog.

  • 911 Misdial (Duck Road)

On April 24, 2026, officers were dispatched to a 911 call from the above business. Upon arrival it was determined the call was dialed in error.

  • Traffic Safety Event (1259 Duck Road)

The Duck Police Department, along with the Dare and Currituck County Sheriff’s Offices, participated in a N.C. State Highway Patrol checking station on Duck Road. The event lasted less than two hours and yielded 2 arrests, 25 criminal charges, and 2 warning tickets. The charges included DWI, failure to possess a valid driver’s license, transporting an open container of alcohol, expired vehicle registration, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and seatbelt violations.

  • Community Policing (1259 Duck Road)

On April 25, 2026, the Town of Duck Police Department hosted its inaugural Quiet Connections: An Autism Awareness and Community Resources Event. The event recognized World Autism Month and focused on inclusion, sensory-friendly activities, and community support.

TRAFFIC CRASHES

  • 1209 Duck Road

On April 19, 2026, a motor vehicle struck the patio of a business. Minor vehicle damage observed. No injuries.

  • Duck Road / 1259 Duck Road

On April 24, 2026, a vehicle struck a deer on Duck Road. The vehicle sustained minor damage. The vehicle owner declined to file a crash report.
