TRAFFIC

  • Officers issued 21 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 

PROPERTY CHECKS

  • 158 business checks were made. No unsecured doors were found.
  • 5 extra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.      

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST

  • Suspicious Condition (Duck Road)

On April 5, 2026, officers were called to the Sanderling Spa after an employee found the spa door propped open with a flip flop. Officers searched the spa and found it to be unoccupied.

  • Assist Other Agency (Salt House Road and Ocean Trail)

On April 5, 2026, a passerby notified a Duck officer of a roll over crash just north of the Town line in Currituck County. Duck officers responded to the crash and assisted until Currituck County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived.

  • Welfare Check (Duck Road)

On April 6, 2026, a parent requested officers check on the welfare of her son after the mother was unable to reach her son by phone. Officers located the son and determined he was safe. 

  • Arrest (Duck Road)

On April 9, 2026, officers stopped to assist a motorist after the lumber in his vehicle spilled onto the roadway. While assisting, it became apparent that the driver was under the influence of an impairing substance. While conducting the investigation, the manager of Kellogg’s Supply reported that the spilled lumber had been stolen. Thirty-six-year-old Brian Campbell of Columbia, North Carolina, was arrested on an outstanding warrant, larceny, and operating a vehicle while in possession of an open container of alcohol. The defendant is being held at the Dare County Detention Center in lieu of a $300 secured bond. The Magistrate also imposed a $5,000 unsecured bond.

  • Town Ordinance Violation (Duck Road)

On April 10, 2026, officers responded to a suspicious vehicle parked in the parking lot of the business. Officers found two people asleep in vehicle. The occupants were advised of the Town ordinance prohibiting  sleeping in vehicles and were asked to leave the area.

  • Larceny (Duck Road)

On April 10, 2026, officers were called to the Town Park after a concrete alligator near the boardwalk was reported stolen.

  • Civil Dispute (Ocean Bay Boulevard)

On April 10, 2026, officers responded to a civil dispute between property owners over brush and vegetation that had been cleared. The parties agreed to obtain a survey to determine where the property line sits.
