TRAFFIC

  • Officers issued 18 traffic enforcement actions during the week. 
  • Officers issued 1 e-bike enforcement action during the week. 
  • Officers issued 1 golf cart enforcement action during the week.

PROPERTY CHECKS

  • 124 business checks were made. No unsecured doors were found.
  • No extra patrols were requested by out-of-town property owners this week.      

INCIDENTS OF INTEREST    

  • Dispute (Marlin Court)

On June 28, 2026, officers responded to a dispute involving guests and cleaning staff at a rental property. The guests were reportedly expected to leave by late morning, and cleaning had already begun. Officers confirmed the guests were leaving and spoke with cleaning staff, who reported feeling unsafe due to an upset guest. Officers remained nearby in case further issues arose.

  • Suspicious Person (Duck Road)

On June 28, 2026, a local store employee reported a prior interaction with an unknown male customer who was touching himself inappropriately while speaking with the employee. The conduct made the employee uncomfortable. The employee did not want to pursue charges but wanted law enforcement to be aware. The employee was advised to coordinate with management regarding possible trespass options and to request a police escort when needed.

  • Assist Other Agency (South Wrightsville Avenue)

On June 29, 2026, officers assisted the Nags Head Police Department by providing a police drone and pilot. Officers on active criminal patrol were attempting to locate a suspect who was suspected of being involved in recent car break ins. Multiple units established a perimeter, used a K9 track, and deployed the drone to track heat signatures. The suspect was not located within the perimeter.

  • Suspicious Condition (Duck Road)

On July 1, 2026, a business owner reported receiving a suspicious phone call from an unknown male who claimed to be associated with law enforcement and asked personal questions. The owner ended the exchange without providing personal, financial, or sensitive information.

  • Larceny (Duck Road)

On July 2, 2026, a local business reported two females stealing approximately $1,000 worth of jewelry and merchandise from the store. The business posted screen shots from a surveillance camera on social media and received a call from a concerned citizen. The citizen recognized one of the suspects as her daughter and her daughter’s friend. The parent gathered the merchandise and took the suspects back to the shop to answer to the crime.  The shop owner agreed to restitution and declined criminal prosecution.  

TRAFFIC CRASHES

  • Duck Road and Nor Banks Drive

On June 30, 2026, a northbound vehicle slowed for congested traffic.  The following vehicle failed to slow and rear ended the first vehicle. No apparent injuries were reported.
